When I was approached to write a blog, I thought to myself 'well, that seems a bit old school' but OK I will try it out. Marketing on the island of Maui, along with pretty much everything, seems to be about 5 years behind mainland trends but we are also marketing towards a very unique audience. There is a distinct line between the Maui resident and the Maui visitor, a well defined target market is always a key step in planning a strategic marketing approach.
I'm now on month 5 of blogging and bringing on new clients looking for a boost in SEO, to share their story on a variety of platforms in hopes of reaching unique clientele. The fact is, visitors ARE using search engines to plan their Maui vacations. Between a strong website, some basic SEO including consistent blog posts and social media platforms, small businesses dependent on a visitor market should be well positioned to gain that online attention. Capture the visitor BEFORE they arrive or you wont see them at all. Nobody is spending their precious vacation time planning activities, maybe not even dining, all of that has been done in advance from the comfort of their home on a cold mainland day.
Blogging allows a company to show it's true personality, to share stories and advice in a non 'sales-y' way. It is also a great way to direct potential customers to your sales site, to start real conversations and build your brand in a very unique way. Blogs don't take a lot of time and therefore don't cost a lot of money but add a ton of valuable content to your website, allow you to connect with partners and provide additional topics, videos and links to share through social media accounts.
So there you have it, blogging, unlike so many other marketing trends, isn't fleeting and it aint dead :) Ready to try it for your business but don't have the time? Sometimes it is difficult to think of appropriate content because you're so enveloped in your business. A outside perspective can help to bring new ideas (or existing ones that need a purpose) to life. Let's chat about blogging!
